New Traditions Woodworks is a longtime dream of Ed Pribyl, a Northern Illinois artist and woodworker. Ed started carving more than 10 years ago with simple hand tools and a piece of lumber. His carvings have evolved to include award-winning pieces that are collected by people all over the country. His furniture is unique in its style and has character that can’t be found in mass produced, machine made products. He uses time-honored (and time consuming) methods like mortise and tenon joinery, dovetailed drawers and wooden fasteners.

For years, Ed trained under the expert guidance of skilled wood craftsmen. In modern shop environments, he honed his skills at building cabinets, furniture, and intricate wood doors. But he longed to return to creativity and old-fashioned carving methods. Now, there are not enough hours in the day once Ed steps into his own workshop. “It’s a real pleasure to create for myself, to provide for my family while remaining true to what I want to do.” Says Ed.
